High School Program

Applications for the Spring 2026 program are open now through Monday, January 30th, 2026 at 11:59 PM! Please use this link to apply.

The Brown Political Review is excited to announce our upcoming Spring 2026 High School Program, open to motivated high school students curious about politics, journalism, and writing. The program is virtual and free of charge.

Selected applicants will join a close-knit cohort of peers who share an interest in public affairs. Over the course of the semester, they will work one-on-one with a BPR editor and collaborate in pitch workshops to learn how to research, edit, and write for a political magazine. By the end of the program, participants will walk away with a polished article ready for publication on our official website.

This program offers students the opportunity to investigate pressing issues facing public policy and everyday life: Who pays the real price for rat poison, and why is the state allowing it? Why has Congress failed up update gun laws? Has the RIDE takeover improved Providence public schools?

These are the kinds of questions students have explored in the articles below through original reporting, research, and analysis:

“Rats! We’re Killing Our Wildlife” by Miro Meek of Classical High School

“America: Guns or Books?” by Ava Nunez of East Providence High School

“Four Years Later: Has RIDE Been Successful with the Providence Schools Takeover?” by Tim Yean of Cranston High School East

If you have any questions or want to know more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our High School Program Directors, Ava Rahman (ava_rahman@brown.edu) and Madeleine Connery (madeleine_connery@brown.edu).
